7 Tips for Your Big Day

Congratulations, your wedding is coming up soon! How have you been feeling during the past few weeks? Is it something like “Dress fitting tomorrow!”, “We’re late for the food tasting”, “Is it gonna rain on my wedding day?”, “Show me the flower samples!”, “Did we pick the soundtrack for our first dance?” and it goes on and on…

Been there, done that. And let me tell you, planning a wedding was probably one of the most hectic things I have ever had to do, yet the most rewarding. There’s nothing like putting in your heart for the event of your lifetime, celebrating your true love and partnership. So, our beautiful bride of the season, here are a few tips that will help you manage these overwhelming times, and get you through your wedding day with peace and bliss!

  1. Keep track There is a lot going on – meetings with suppliers, decisions with your significant other, hair and make up rehearsals, ideas that popped up on your Pinterest… keep notes of all of it! Get a planner or your laptop/tablet, and dedicate it to writing notes about the things you have decided on so far, things you are yet to discuss, and plug in your appointments on your calendar. It’s really helpful to have it all organized in one place and be on top of things to feel like you really own this!
  2. Help! Don’t be shy to ask for help. Planning a wedding is huge, and you can definitely use a hand wherever possible. If your budget allows, hiring a reliable wedding planner can make your life so much easier. If not, you can definitely try asking your family and friends for some assistance, whether you want someone to attend appointments with you, need an opinion on things, need help with wrapping the wedding favors.. the people who love you will be more than glad to help when it comes to such an important event, as a matter of fact, they will feel quite special knowing that you’re resorting to them while preparing for your special day.
  3. Be a Smart Shopper You might be surprised with the price of things and supplier quotations you’ve been receiving – everything feels so expensive! But your big day is approaching and it’s one of the most important events for you, so you think to yourself “Ah, I need to take a decision now!” DON’T. Check out around 5 suppliers on average for every aspect, whether it’s the florists, photographers, make up artist, etc.. You can find good quality service-providers with reasonable prices if you shop around. Ask your married relatives and friends for suggestions, search online, check out your local shops.. Doing your due diligence can really save you the extra cash, which you will certainly be needing later!
  4. Which baskets are you putting your eggs in? You need to have your priorities aligned and carefully select the things that you’re willing to pay more vs. less for. For example, some couples prefer to invest more money into photography and less on gift baskets. It all depends on what matters more to you, what you’re willing to trade off, and where you’re willing to compromise.
  5. Give Yourself a Buffer Start planning early on to avoid any last-minute delays and to get the best quotations possible from your suppliers. You’d also have more available options before others start booking the same venues/catering services/etc.. That buffer I mentioned is not only for your time, but also your budget! Whatever your budget is, make sure you are accounting for at least a 10-15% margin where you may be spending more on last-minute expenses, unexpected bills, etc.
  6. Keep Your Partner Involved This event is to celebrate both, your partner and yourself. They should be involved in your planning journey as much as you are. Go to meetings together, align on the latest updates, take decisions jointly. This will set clear grounds so that you both know what to expect on your wedding day and avoid any disputes or disappointments.
  7. Sweat less, Dance more! No matter how diligently you plan things, there might always be a (unpleasant) surprise. Whether it’s a technical issue, a wardrobe malfunction, or even a passing rainy cloud, embrace it. You’ve done your best, and some things are just out of your control. So don’t let anything ruin your joy, and just dance the night away!
